The soul and the ego

Dear Friends,

I’m inviting all the friends in my life to view this multimedia blog where I share findings, insights and discoveries related to the Ideal Career workshop created in August 2005.

Some of you know me as a childhood friend, others know me as a business associate, and yet others know me as a daring and skillful lover. Just kidding.

The Ideal Career workshop is a revolutionary workshop I created with my sister Zoonie in 2005, and initially it was more like self-therapy: we needed to find our own way, so we spontaneously created this workshop called “Career Brainstorming.”

However, as a consummate intellectual and inventor, I quickly crystallized it into a “framework” so the workshop became the Ideal Career Framework workshop.

Then, in 2008, after one full year of studying the work of Esther Hicks, a spiritually inspired teacher who opened my mind to the secrets behind the universal Law of Attraction, I began to shift the focus of ICF from an intellectual standpoint to an emotional standpoint.

That’s when it made more sense to me to rename the workshop as “Ideal Career Journey.” The journey is an emotional one, not one based on actions and external efforts and results.

In short, and this was a HUGE insight for the intellectual that I am, the HEART must be the center of one’s life; the brain or intellect is important, but in a tactical capacity, not in a strategic capacity.

The heart must be heard, and allowed to set the direction for one’s life. If not, life will not be fulfilling nor satisfying.

Yes, I know most of you ladies are thinking: “Finally, a man who gets it, that life is all about love.” What can I say, I’m a slow learner!

I even dare to say that a career is about self-love. The career choice you make, is a decisive and definite declaration of how much you love yourself.

This doesn’t mean the intellect (or the positive ego) is not useful or important. It simply means that the heart (or soul) transcends yet includes the ego and the intellect.

The romantic metaphor is to think of your soul or heart as Whitney Houston in the movie The Bodyguard, and your ego as the skillful and fearless bodyguard played by Kevin Costner.
